Found a great little website. http://www.fishingreminder.com/ it reckons best time at Viccy Point Saturday is around 11am to 1ish. Not sure if this covers squid as well as fish. Went on a trip yesterday and the prediction was spot on for the fish on the chew... Anyway the question I have is, is squid-ding viable during the day? Or are they hiding?

They are always there and hungry. Only living for 1 year they don't get much chance to have time off to go into hiding. You just need to put the right jig in front of them.

Don't really like your chances with the predicted wind however.

Yesterday's trip was predicted to be wet, whole day was perfect off Tweed Coast, no wind, no swell, just a lovely day! If its too windy there is always a place to hide in a cafe..

What about daytime jigs? What colours are recommended.

Your best bet is to take a natural colour and a bright colour and see what works the best. Dull golds, oranges and pinks work the best for me most days.

Spot on there Bill, squid are in the same spots during the day and I find natural jigs work the best.

I also tend to do a lot of blind casting in a searching pattern. If there are any squid around they tend to follow the jig in and then I target them nearer to shore.

Also I like deeper water in the day but I know G targets them right in the shallows in broad daylight.

The squid can be any where during the day but they love to sit around areas where there's lots of structure such as rubble, rock and weed so that they can easily blend in. I have generally found during the day the larger squid love to sit in deeper water because it's easier for them to hide on the bottom even if there isn't that much strucure on the bottom, this is due to the lack of light penitration at the bottom of the water collum in deep water. Deeper water can be any where from 2.5m to 3m and deeper. The other thing about deeper water during the day is that the squids pray such as prawns and crabs and fish like little reef fish, bream, pike etc love sitting in deeper water during the day. The larger squid can most certainly be found in the shallows during the day but it mainly depending on how much cover or structure there is for them to blend into because they need good dence bits of structure to sit around because they are more visible in shallow water and they need to try and hide as much as they can so that there pray can't see them that easy as well as predators. When its overcast during the day the squid won't need to hide as much in the shallow due to the lack of light.

As for daytime jigs I use larger jigs around 2.5 to 3.5 the reason for this is due to the overall visibilty and attraction of larger jigs because 2.2's and 2.0's aren't that easy for squid to see when you are blind casting and seaching for them during the day. My go to colours during the day are natural patterns but the best colour sceme I have found is a jig with a silver or gold base that has a bright colored cloth over the foil such as a bright pink, green, orange ect. The main reason why I like this colour sceme is due to the fact that you have 2 benifits, you have a high visibility colour and a flash to the jig so if the clouds block out the sun due to over cast conditions the squid can still easily see where the jig is due to the high visibility of the jig colour and if the water is a bit dirty the high vis colour is easy to see in slightly dirty water. Natural pattern jigs are great for when the water is very clean and the squid are a bit shut down but most of the time I find the pink and silver or gold to be very productive during the day.
