Hey everyone,
I am new to the squid fishing side of things, apart from them being a bycatch i have enevr really fished for egi. First of what color squid jig ould you use?say if its night time use a lighter more flamboyant type of jig? I have been fishing a bit around peel and dunwich recently and have seen them around there but never had any squid jigs on board? can someone please suggest how heavy i fish for them and style??and also some relatively cheap jigs i could buy?
Thanks everyone in advance happy egi-ing

Hi Rizuna (Is that your name?)

Welcome to the club!

Its really not worth buying the cheap jigs as they just dont work unless the squid are really aggressive. Its better to buy just one or two quality ones.

There are a few posts on what jigs to use so I wont repeat here but have a good ready of the forum and dont be scared to ask questions!

Cheers,

Robbie

We only discussed this on Friday night. It has been proven many a time the "cheap" jigs just don't work. I have done this first hand with a mate. I was using quality, he was using "cheap bcf specials". I would out fish him by at least 5-1 every time we went out

I personally use a lot of the yamashita egi oh q live. I mainly use 2.5 in a NGNK I think it is. That is my go to jig. Other then that I use a blue/silver in a 1.8s and a red in a 2.2. Have got pinks, oranges, rainbows, clear naorys but nothing works better then the ones I mentioned for the type of fishing I do.

Get yourself a 2.5 and 2.2 maybe a 1.8. That will keep u covered for land based stuff.

Stay clear of the cheap no brands, they will fall apart after a few outings.

Yeh I like the yamashita lives too, my fav is the RDRA, BLCFO in 2.5, been getting results at night.

Another brand that is good that you don't see much here is Kanji international, clicks prospecs,

They make some great colours and patterns, really nice actions.

These two are my go to lures

I find the pink with red foils base work very well at night. Also started using daiwa rattle in purple rain, has been a hit with the arrow squid.
