GOLD COAST SOCIAL EVENT 19/3/2011

First topic message reminder :

This is what we have been waiting for, the return of the squid season.........

It has be discussed and decided that the club competitions will start in April due to the recent flooding to give the bays more time for the water quality to improve.
That being said, however there will be a social event on the gold coast to kick off the year and get the cobwebs off the gear.
this is not a competition round and points will not be awarded, however the night will follow the same format as the competition rounds and i am sure that i can find some prizes worth fishing for.

SATURDAY 19/3/2011 7pm to 11pm
meet up point will be in the carpark of the boatramp on waterways dr beside the sundale bridge from 6:30 pm.

GC update.
went out for a look last night, water quality was good, got a few squid (3), not a lot of size in them, we did see a big one at bayview harbour along with sting rays, tailor, travelly, bream and heaps and heaps of bait.
I also seen a flathead about 60~70 cm have a go at a squid on the surface, the flatty was directly under the light (for thoese who know). I am sure he will be there on Saturday.

For anyone who likes chassing travelly there are stacks in the seaway along with a few king fish. Good fun on light gear.

i will be at the carpark from around 6:00pm if anyone is planning to arrive early
even though we are following the same format as the competition rounds, because this is a social event we have made a couple of changes.....
ALL squid will be eligable for the following prizes:
heaviest squid
individual heaviest bag (of up to 3 squid)
team prize for the best combined average weight (up to 6 squid per team of 2, 9 for teams of 3,etc) it will work by adding the individual weights and then dividing by the number of anglers in each team to get the average weight per team
teams will be selected based on experience so novice anglers can fish with more experienced anglers, but because this is a social occasion it is flexable

we have 11 confirmed starters, so looking forward to a good night of squidding

i was wondering if tonight is still on? Ive noticed it hasnt stopped raining all day..lol..is the situation the same down the coast??

well i live at waterford which is about half hour north of the coast and it pouring down rain here now

had a look at the harbour friday night and the water is still crap and no squid to be seen.
at a half assed guess everybody caught a wet ass down there but did anybody catch a squid??

we were plagued by the curse of competition weather.......
friday - fine, saturday - crap, sunday - fine, but them's the breaks

we had 12 attend, and unfortunately only 4 squid caught. the fishing was extremely tough on the western side of the broadwater due to the SE wind, but the eastern side was 'pleasent'.
chris took out the night with the largest and most squid.

and before anything else is said, it takes greater skill to catch the small ones.....

a big thanks to the guys from up north for making the effort to come down in the conditions.

No problem we had a wicked time even if we didnt catch anything.Its the social aspect.I think its never too far for a session Cant wait for the next outing.Went to Woody Point water looks like Milo weather should clear up soon i hope.I learnt alot lastnight in regards to gear modifications of jigs thanks for the hints.I wanna pick up some slow sinkers Yamashita Naory Range Hunters in slow sinkers any ideas???

Great to meet everybody who turned up on Sat. Had a good night, even though the weather and squid did not really co-operate. Look forward to the next event.

Its a shame the weather didn't hold out for you all but it sounds like you had a good time anyway which is the main thing.
I would have loved to have been able to come along but the missus is due to have a baby and could go into labor any time so I can't stray to far from home.

with the perfect conditions on the coast last night we headed out for a look
i lost count at 18, so i guess we saw somewhere between 25 - 30 squid
a lot of them are small, but given decent conditions, they are certainly there

It's always the way G, you should have been there a few days before or a few days after . Did you catch any ?
