Evolution of an eging reel
Thought that an article about the modifications I have performed on my Steez may interest some people...
I bought this reel about 2 years ago,a Steez 2500,for general spin applications.
The only thing that was changed on it in this form was the T-knob for an I shaped handle knob.
The line that is on the 2500 spool is Sunline castaway 18lb,a little on the heavy side for eging. So when I had the available funds,I purchased a 2508 spool and loaded it with Unitika eging P.E -1 line.
The two spools,2500 and 2508,both share the same 7kg max drag capacity.I felt this was a little heavy for eging and really wanted to smooth out the initial drag startup, and also wanted a much smoother drag operation overall.
The solution was to get an RCS drag adapter.
The drag adapter kit brings the maximum drag down to 3kg,but makes the drag operation so much smoother.Just the thing for when you dont want to just bring up tentacles that have been ripped out of the squid from too much drag!!!
The next needed part was a double handle.I was looking at getting an RCS double handle, but when Jeryl offered a carbon Colossal 90mm double for sale,I could'nt get the money to him quick enough!!!
The reel performs beautifully now.It is so balanced with the double handle,no more wobble when taking up slack line.
Also being carbon,it has'nt added much weight at all to the reel.
I am very happy with the finished result. Now I have a reel with alot of versatility,I can easily change the spool and handle for chasing different species and also have an outfit that is very nice to use and sorted for my eging.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

Re: Evolution of an eging reel
very nice mick - i have seen the evolution of this reel from standard steez 2500 to supertuned eging spec steez 2508w heheheh. the double handle really balances the reel well when mounted on a rod
Re: Evolution of an eging reel
awesome modifications Mike glad that i could help with a couple of the parts too hheh
yea thats the reason i'd like to get a 2508 steez aswell, swapping with different spools and handles for different needs

nah.....put it on a 2500R.....then you can winch does bastards in!! lol So much for finesse egiing...
Re: Evolution of an eging reel
I only just came across this thread for some reason I have missed it. Nice custom set up Mick. Where can I get me some of those double handles ? I have a little 2004 steez and a 1000 luvius that I'm going to start using for egiing and I wouldn't mind getting double handles for them both. I have seen the rcs ones around and they look alright but those carbon ones are the ducks nuts, I just have to have atleast one..lol
Cheers,

that particular one is from the emeraldas colossal tune up kit. Im sure one of the tackle stores here would be able to order it it. it is however a spool/handle kit and cost rougly 35000 yen (approx $410aud) and thats before shippin. the only online store i know of that sells and ships is plat

there are a few other carbon handles out there such as the new breaden one that i posted, also bassart and livre, but being carbon and from highend jap brands they are all pretty exe (looking about the cost of a new luvias)
if you have deep pockets and really want the handle im sure you could get the kit and sell off the spool if you dont have a need for a 2506 one
cheers

Thanks Andy, my pockets aren't very deep but some how I always find extra depth in them when it comes to buying fishing gear..lol.
I was just on the breadon sight and their w handles look very sexy.
