just a small tip that i've learnt from jeryl and from watching eging dvds. if you plan on keeping squid for a feed or even as dead bait then take along some large ziplock bags. by placing dead squid in there you can easily seal it up and store it in your esky/cooler bag and not have to worry about the ink and slime getting over everything.

G`Day Andy ,

Have you tried a brain spike on squid , it works great on fish , puts all the blood into head & gut , flesh is cleaner & keep`s longer ?

Fresh is best naturally! I eat mine the same day or next night. I hate freezing squid or fish, IMO you go out catch some and eat it, then if you want some more you go and do it again, it's all part of the game! If I get hungry for fish in between I eat steak or chicken Laughing

From past experiences in catching lots of squid offshore you can freeze them but they aren't as good as if you catch an eat them with in 48 hours, if you do freeze them be careful because they freeze burn easy so keep them uncleaned if you decide to freeze them you can only freeze them for about 3 months then they start to freeqe burn. Hope you find this advice helpful Very Happy

Fine in the fridge for around 3 days, there is nothing wrong with freezing squid.
I clean mine and then freeze the tubes individually in freezer bags, never have a problem with freezer burn. I have kept them frozen for up to 6 months and the eating quality is still excellent. I actually think the freezing process can improve the eating quality as they seem to be more tender after being frozen and the flavour doesn't change at all.

Cheers,
Al

G ` Day ,

Bought a spike from MO~s , cheap thing but postage is the killer

Have not used it to date , but if you use it on a charter vessel i think the dechie`s would love you ,,,, NO BLACK MESS to clean up

To Andy ,

Where can i find info on the movements on squid , been fish the Swains Reef for a few years , some times they are thick others NOT THERE AT ALL !

Freezing , does it change the flesh , taste ect

eaten them fresh out of the water in the afternoon for an on tray before tea ,,,,melt in the mouth yum

When you see 20 to 50 all after the same lure at the back of a vessel at times up there & we use frozen as bait & pay $ for it to

sorry Andy tis may go into a few topic~S
