New Member Night
First topic message reminder :
We always seem to get a boost in membership this time of year, which is a good thing.
My question is........
is there enough interest from members new to the sport to hold an introduction night?
My thoughts would be to have a coupe of hours of show & tell / Q & A about rods, reels, lines, leaders, jigs, etc. seminar style to cover the basics, followed by a fishing session (weather depending).
You would get a chance to see and get touchy feely with the gear a lot of members use.
I am happy to donate my time, and depending on numbers we might be able to get some of the other 'senior' members involved as well.
It would be held sometime in March, with the date to be determined by conditions
Reply to this thread to register your interest and we will see what we can put together for you

Re: New Member Night
I've had a look at the forecast for next week.......not good
Looks like there will be a cyclone forming tomorrow and tracking south, at this stage one forcast has it crossing around Gladstone on Wednesday morning.
If this is the case, we will cop some foul weather by Friday 15th and we will have no choice but to postpone the event.
We will make a decision on Wednesday night 13/3/13 at 7pm as to whether we need to postpone the event or go ahead as planned.
If we are postponed, the next available date is FRIDAY 29/3/13, which happens to be Good Friday this year.
Make sure to check in on Wednesday night for confirmation

Re: New Member Night
Hi Guys
I understand that Friday night is an introduction to the gear some use and how we use it. If it works that some of you are going to have a fish then you should be wearing the appropriate footwear and not thongs. Some of the fishing areas can be slippery and sharp. If there is no fishing then wear what you want

Re: New Member Night
No weather warnings.........so it is on as planned
Manly Boat Harbour, Trafalgar St
(Car park past Wilsons Restaurant)
Friday 15/3/13 at 8:00pm
Being that this is the first event for us this season I can understand the interest by established members as well as the new guys.
Please keep in mind that this night is for the members who are new to squid fishing. If you would like a refresher course, by all means come along, however it is a presentation of the information that is already posted on the forum.
If you are just coming for a fish, if you are there by 10pm and could team up with a 'newby', would be appreciated.

We could get through it in around 1 hour (which is long enough listening to me waffling on), but if we allow for 2 hours including some Q&A and show and tell time as well we should be sweet. (Followed by a fishing session)
Hopefully we can snag one of the tables, if not it will have to be the back of the ute
With 2 days to go, who's coming along so we know the numbers and whether you are coming for the talk or just later on for a fish
See you all Friday night
