VICCY PT SOCIAL ROUND

First topic message reminder :

There is an opportunity for us to hold a social round before the competitions kick off

Sunday 21/4/13 Viccy Pt. . . . 4am ~ 7am followed by BBQ breakfast.

If you want to stick around for the BBQ there will be a charge of $5 for a sausage and a can of soft drink. If you just want to come for the squiding thats fine.

There will be a prize pack for biggest squid caught on the day.

This event last season was a lot of fun and had the highest level of participation.

Green: Haha this years EX series is seriously slick looking rods, I prefer the L model too, as I already have a ML inf interline but they didn't have it on the site so I went with the ML.

If you make it down next sunday yeh have a play with the rod.

Hi, I'm really keen to come along as I want to get into squid fishing again. A question though - I don't have much squid gear - I have a cpl of cheapy squid jigs and a couple of 7' rods with 2500ish reels with 8lb on one and not sure on the other. Will they work? I also have bloody kids sport commitments and may have to leave a little early so I hope thats not an issue either

You don't need to start with expensive gear, a light bream style rod and 2500 size reel can work. On e of the clubs best squidders uses a cheap bits and pieces rod (as he describes it as). Later you may find you want to upgrade. Generally the real cheap jigs don't have great actions so maybe look at starting with some yamas or nudes or sumizokus in a couple of sizes, we mainly find 2 or 2.5 the most popular. Everyone has their own likes in jigs colours and sizes. If you can make the social round you are more than welcome to see some of the jigs and gear I use

Bud i have a couple jigs you can use no probs.Just bring a good head lamp or hand torch or i can lend you mine for the night till you get established.90% is you coming out 10% is members giving you a hand thats what were about.Oh im Ned btw.

I have a couple of decent flathead/bream rods and planned on bringing those as well as my headlamps and even my castnet

pamtayls, I know a couple of guys that use shimano jigs in 2.5, I think alot of it is if YOU like the jig then you are more likely to impart the right action in retreiving. Some jigs move through the water better than others.That is my opinion and others may disagree

Hey mate cast nets arent needed its a strictly a jig and rod session.

Andrew....thats my master squid rod your talking about and I'll put my left nut on it's caught more squid in one season than 5 of yours....but I have upgraded to a real egi rod....beat me why some times....the "muginator" has a softer action in the top end....it's a bit like Ned hahahahaha
