Northside Rnd 2 report
Well the time had come for round 2 of The Brisbane Egi Club. inc Competition. Conditions were near on perfect, with a slight nwn wind. In total we had Alan,Kyle, Ray, Shane, Mick and myself turn up. Later on we had Matt make an appearance, and I know a few others would have loved to have join us but were unable to.

Everyone arrived on time for the check in and after drawing partners, everyones decision was pretty much the same, to head over to Woody point Jetty as the water was still quite low. Halfway in and not a single squid had been landed, but a everyone one was getting the usual touches from squid, and a few dropped one as well.

It was just on sundown that my partner Kyle suggested we head away from the rest of the guys and try hitting the shallows. The only bites Kyle and I got were from the mossies. Not long after I received a call from Mick that ray had landed his first decent squid, with a tube length of equal 20cm and equal 430grms.
It was only a matter of time before Kyle and I couldn't take the mozzies anymore so we decided to head back to the jetty. When we got there I headed towards the deeper end of the jetty only to find out that Alan had been slaying them. Within about 5 mins of being there Alan had pulled another 2 in.
Time was running out and no one else was pulling them in. Eventually Shane hooked onto one but it wasn't big enough so he let it go. By now everyone had been strolling up and down the jetty blind casting into the deep and the shallows for nothing, at about 1945 we all decided to head back to the meet up point, where Mick made his final attempts to pull in a squid.
With everyone at the meet up point, the weighing and measuring began. First up Rays was measured at 20cm Tube Length and 430grms. Next up was Alan’s bag; his first legal was an equal tie with Ray’s at 20cm and 430grms. Next up was a 19cm Tube length but this time it came in at 550grms and his last came in at 18cm Tube Length and coming in at mid 300grms (will update that when I look at the score book).
With Alan’s local knowledge of the area and a very nice bag of 3 he easily took out round 2 of the Brisbane Egi Club.inc Competition. Not to mention with his second squid weighing an impressive 550grms he also took out heaviest squid.

Re: Northside Rnd 2 report

It was a great night, and really enjoyed having a go at a new area for me.
That first shot Ray,with the setting sun,is awesome.

I agree Mick, that pic of Ray and his squid with the sun setting behind is a great shot.
Congrats to Ray on catching a ripper tiger squid. It looked to be the biggest squid of the comp but was Identical in length and weight to my biggest at 20cm and 430 grams and then to every ones surprise my 19 cm squid blew the two big ones out of the water at 550 grams, I reckon you were robbed Ray lol.. nah I weight him at home to make sure there wasn't a mistake made and he weighed the same. I also noticed when I sliced it into rings that it had much thicker flesh than the bigger looking one.
It was a top night and was good to meet everyone and have a fish with you all in my local area, its a shame more squid weren't caught but that's squiding. It was good to see all the specialist gears the guys were using to.
I'm looking forward to the next round at Manly, hope to see you all there again and hopefully some new faces as well.
Thanks to the organizers for the great night and cool prizes.
Cheers,
Alan

Yup, congrats Alan.
Hopefully I will be able to make the next one.
Smack bang in the last week of uni, multiple major assignments due.
Hopefully I get to pull something like that from my home waters .

Hey Hon-Su,
The Calamari Classic article looked great, love the banner in the background too! You'll have to ask Mick about the uniform, they are really nice, mine fits like a glove!

Re: Northside Rnd 2 report
Yeh, its the 3rd one so far. Helps with a bit of support from the Breaden boys and some big name sponsors. Next comp will be bigger again as more sponsors join in.
