Does Wind affect Squid? Empty Does Wind affect Squid?

Some of the more experienced people might know the answer to this one. Does wind affect squiding?

I have always tried to go when the wind is 5-10 knots, mainly because you can see them. When it's 10-15 knots do the squid go and hide, or are they still there it's just that you can't see them as well? I know the fish around Wello love a bit of chop, just not sure about the tasty critters them and myself love to eat.

I don't really get out after them enough to know their habbits yet, so any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

Hi Bill,

I'm going to go with no wind doesn't bother squid BUT let me qualify that:

1. Any sort of fishing in strong wind sucks
2. Wind chops the water up which reduces visibility which squid don't like
3. Makes the water surface too hard to see through
4. If you don't have an interline you get way more wind knots and guide wrap.

Those are more the reasons why I never bother if its too windy.

Thanks Robbie,

Exactly what I was thinking when I posted. Don't worry, I know all about line wrapping etc fishing out of a yak in the wind.
