Attatching egi to leader?
First topic message reminder :
Currently I am using these Owner swivel snaps for easy change overs and plus they seem super strong.
What else is out there that you are using..
Good and bad, like to hear what you have or are using??

Re: Attatching egi to leader?
As long as you want. I normally have around 1 rod length so around 8ft. It really is a personal preference. Although I wouldn't recommend anything less then 4ft. I tend to change leader for every session and will change when I get down to about 4-6ft in length. And as like any fishing constantly check for nicks and abrasion throughout a session

Andy or Les, why that length? Does it make a difference to the action of the jig or does the squid see the leader is it's not flurocarbon? If you used a short flurocarbon leader would that be a problem?

My question exactly. ;-) I think leader is to hide the line since squid has good eyes. And what what type of knot to ties between the leader and the line? Obviously the knot should be able to fly out the glides during the casting. Btw thanks for the previous info. :-)

Hey Tim, I use an improved albright knot. I use a 0.8PE main line and a 8lb flurocarbon leader. I use an interline rod and have no troubles as the knot is small and compact. I used to use the uniknot until I was converted by some of the boys here

I've bought myself one of the diawa knot tying thingies.
No idea if the knot it ties has a name. But it's sooooo much easier to do on the go.
As far as snaps go. I use them purely for the convenience of interchanging jigs.
I use about 6 - 7 feet of leader.

Re: Attatching egi to leader?
Like allot of the guys I use the Breaden snaps, they are the best imo, very small and light and don't impede the action of the egi (jig) at all, quick and easy to change from one egi to another.
As far as leader go's, 4-6 ft is plenty, squid aren't really line/leader shy. I prefer to use a minimum of 10 lb fluro for leader but usually use 12-15 lb, the reason for this is if I get a decent snag I can usually put enough pressure on the line to pull my egi off the snag by straightening out the hooks. If you try this with lighter line it results in snapped line and a lost egi.
Cheers,
Al
