GOLD COAST SOCIAL EVENT 19/3/2011

This is what we have been waiting for, the return of the squid season.........

It has be discussed and decided that the club competitions will start in April due to the recent flooding to give the bays more time for the water quality to improve.
That being said, however there will be a social event on the gold coast to kick off the year and get the cobwebs off the gear.
this is not a competition round and points will not be awarded, however the night will follow the same format as the competition rounds and i am sure that i can find some prizes worth fishing for.

SATURDAY 19/3/2011 7pm to 11pm
meet up point will be in the carpark of the boatramp on waterways dr beside the sundale bridge from 6:30 pm.

not 100% sure as yet as I may be fitting another motor to my boat that weekend , but I may still get there.

I don't understand the decision not to make it a competition round, but it should make a great social evening!
Grahame, I'm sure I can also find some gear to donate to make up a prize. I'll also be happy to help anyone new to the Goldie to find the local squid haunts.

I might just have to take you up on that offer Chris......Have never fished down in that area, and would appreciate any tips on locations you are happy to share. I am sure you will keep one or two secrets up you sleeve for comp day.........lol

Yaaa, I hear there are a few getting about as well, small stuff but challenging none the less.
I was talking about squidding to my mackerel fishing freinds and they are as keen as mustard. Even though they have not done much squidding they are great fun to have around.

I will get them to join the site and come on down… Mikey + at least 2 extras possibly 3!

Might be the best turn out ever!

Alst night after the fly fishing meeting, went down to the seaway for 20 min... got one about 13cm and seen another one. Very promising, lets hope the weather is good..

I too went for a look-see last night. I headed to both sides of the Gold Coast Broadwater an hour either side of top, and saw at least 15 squid. I just hope they'll grow (rapidly) over the next ten days.

thats good to hear that there are signs of squid. ive been looking at the river as i drive to and from work and it looks just as bad as before i left for holidays. Havent had the chance to check out Manly, wello or vicy point. I did head over to woody pt last week and met up with Alan. The water wasnt that bad over there. it wasnt the best night to check it out due to the rain and winds, but Alan thinks it should get better pretty soon.

just a quick update - headed out to manly last night for the incoming tide. water is still dirty, not as bad as i thought it would have been. didnt see any signs of squid. but looks promising for the 19th social and also for the first round. dates and locations still to be advised.

Ill be there for sure.Count me in.

Looking like I will be able to come along. I dont know any of the spots down there so Chris (or anyone else) if you are happy to cough up a few spots that will be tops. Obviously, I will spend a bit of time nearmapping between now and then. Looking forward to catching up with all you fellas.

Due to the interest shown in fishing the social & the fact that a lot of you will be new to the Goldie, I'll prepare a map with the location of known squid haunts on it. I'll co-ordinate with the other members here on the coast & will hand it out to the members participating on the night.

well you can all go out and enjoy yourselves knowing I'm NOT going to be there to anoy the (unacceptable language) out of every one...lol.
went and checked out this motor today and it's TOOOOOOOO good to knock back so between work and kids ect I'll be taking the old donk off and putting the new one on over next couple of weeks so I'll be able to chase the squid and fish knowing I'll be making it back to the ramp.
so CRAP luck to you all....hahahahahahahgahaah
